You Shouldn't Have to Fit Into Clothes That Don't Fit You

I have been a variety of sizes and shapes — sometimes in the same year.

I have stood in dressing rooms and pulled on pants that fit my waist but not my hips, or my hips but not my waist, or made my stomach look too big and each time blamed myself. The answer, it turns out, it's not me, the pants were wrong.

Standard sizing was designed for a standard (dare I say unrealistic) body. And most of us don't have one.

This is not a new problem. Women have been tailoring, pinning, and adjusting their clothing for as long as clothing has existed — quietly compensating for an industry that builds for a mythical average rather than an actual human. We've been told to size up, size down, try the petite, try the plus. We've been handed a chart and told to fit ourselves into it.

Green Tara Design started because I was tired of that.

What our wrap designs actually do:

The classic wrap/boho/fisherman pant is one of the oldest garment silhouettes in the world — and it has survived this long for a reason. It adjusts. It moves. It accommodates the body that's wearing it rather than demanding the body accommodate it.

Our wrap pants are built on four fits — not four sizes. Each fit is designed around a range of waist and hip measurements, with an adjustable wrap waist that gives you room to move, breathe, and exist in your body without compromise.

Fit 1 — Waist 28–32 / Hips 34–38

Fit 2 — Waist 30–34 / Hips 36–40

Fit 3 — Waist 32–36 / Hips 38–42

Fit 4 — Waist 34–38 / Hips 40–44

And if none of those feel exactly right — we make them to your exact measurements. Waist, hips, length, rise. Your numbers, your pants.

Why natural cotton matters for fit

There is another reason standard sizing fails so many of us — synthetic fabric has no memory. It stretches in the wrong places, holds its shape where you don't want it to, and after a few washes it's a different garment entirely.

Natural cotton breathes, moves, and softens with wear. It drapes rather than clings. It gets better the more you wear it, not worse. And when it's hand block printed — stamped by hand with wooden blocks dipped in plant-based dyes — it becomes something that belongs to you in a way a machine-made garment never quite does.

This is clothing that works with your body and your life. Not against it.

Last month, a woman bought a pair of our wrap pants and a wrap skirt at one of our boutique partners in Philadelphia the week before her honeymoon. She is a TEDx speaker, a UPenn graduate, a woman who clearly knows what she wants.

She wanted the pants and a skirt - the perfect pieces for her trip to Africa -light packing, mix and match looks, dress up or casual, for lounging or the beach, multiple - all in two pieces - even for bedtime.

That is the whole story, really. Clothing that fits your body goes with you everywhere. Clothing that doesn't fit stays in the closet.
